Summer is the perfect chance to detox your way into looking great and feeling great. So treat your body and mind this Summer with the Student Noodles’ Superfoods Top Ten.

1. Avocado

 

Why? Eating avocado can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease and other health issues such as strokes and cancer. It also has nourishing properties for the skin, weight loss and can even cure bad breath. So go on girls – The avocado could be your fairy godmother in disguise.
Eat with: Tomatoes, mozzarella and olives. Dress with oil and vinaigrette and within no time your Tricolore Salad will be bringing all the boys to the yard.
Fun fact: The Aztecs referred to avocados as ahuacatl, which literally means ‘testicle tree’.

2. Edamame

Why? Reduces risks of cancer and heart disease, increases energy levels and keeps you feeling full, which prevents unhealthy snacking.
How? Boil the edamame for 3-4 minutes and add about two teaspoons of salt in the water. When the edamame is boiled and in a bowl, sprinkle on a little more salt for extra flavour. It’s a tasty snack for Summer, as well as being easy to make. Get people to see your new, multi-cultural edge and bring it along to a Summer picnic.

3. Blueberries

Why? Blueberries contain anti-diabetic properties as well as lots of Vitamin C and cancer fighting nutrients. They have also been said to improve memory.
Eat with: I find that blueberries go perfectly with banana, so try this – Buy some Greek Style yoghurt, chop up a banana and sprinkle blueberries on top. Then add honey. Perfect for a light breakfast or healthy afternoon snack.
Fun fact: July is National Blueberry month in America and is celebrated with Blueberry Festivals which promote blueberry muffins, pancakes, pies, shortcake and ice cream.

4. Goji Berries

Why? Goji berries are filled with antioxidants, which have been shown to slow down age-related health issues. It can even protect your vision #MoveOutTheWayCarrots .  Other benefits include mental stability, calmness, happiness and good sleep.
Eat with: Goji berries are great when sprinkled over yoghurt, or if dried fruit and nuts is your type of thang add these to the mix.
Fun fact: If you are an exercise enthusiast, Goji berries can significantly improve your performance.

5. Spinach

Why? It’s highly nutritious. Fantastic for ageing and vision issues and great for the heart too.
Eat with: Risotto. Add some mushrooms, peppers and tomatoes, and sprinkle over with parmesan. Mmmm, delicious!
Fun fact: This may well be the world’s worst spinach joke -

6. Asparagus

Why? For strong bones and prevention of blood clots, diabetes and heart disease.
Eat with: Grilled salmon with a soya sauce topping, boiled potatoes, carrots and butternut squash. BOOH-YAH.
Fun fact: Asparagus is a part of the Lily family.

7. Tomatoes

Why? Tomatoes are great for the skin, bones and the heart.
Eat with: Bruschetta, olive oil, vinaigrette, basil and garlic. Perfecto!

 8. Watermelon

Why? It’s low in calories and can prevent cardiovascular diseases.
Eat with: Feta cheese. Preferably on a beach.
Fun fact: Every part of the watermelon can be eaten- including the seeds and skin.

9. Figs

Why? Figs are a great source of fibre, especially if you want to lose some weight.
Eat with: Yoghurt, honey, cinnamon and flaked almonds.

10. Strawberries

Why? Packed with Vitamin C, excellent for the skin and repairs damage in the body.
Eat with: Fellow fruits, try: mango, blueberries, raspberries, papaya and banana for a sweet and summery fruit salad.
Fun fact: In Belgium there is a museum dedicated to strawberries.
